Mussels are a healthy source of omega-3 fatty acids
Mmmm mussels, I love mussels and it’s good to know they are healthy to eat. Mussels a shellfish are high in protein and low in fat making them a much better choice than beef or other high fat main courses. Mussels are also low in calories and an excellent source of vitamin B12 and selenium. In addition mussels are also a source of vitamin C, phosphorus and zinc. Best of all a good serving of mussels offers a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids.
As with all shellfish make sure the mussels you purchase of fresh and only use live ones in your recipes. Sifting through the package, any time you find an open mussel simply hold it closed for 3 seconds if it does not stay closed throw it out.
There are a lot of ways to prepare mussels my favorite in cooking in tomato sauce with a little garlic, eat em just like that or pour them over a bed of whole wheat pasta.
