Good Karma Points

by Dean Iodice on May 9, 2013

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and I find myself getting mad at strangers because of the way they look or drive. What I find is that this is doing nothing to them and all bad to me. I’ve been searching for a way to be a better person for some time now and I believe I have found the answer. I’m calling it “Good Karma Points”. Little things you can do to help someone else and make you feel a little better about yourself. Pay it forward is another way to describe it. Do little things for others expecting nothing in return and what goes around comes around.

In a competitive world like ours, keeping a good karma score card in your mind will make our world a better place.

Good Karma Points, hmmm, what a great idea.

fruits-and-veggies-photo

This is something that confused me, so I thought It might help you as well.

Vegetarian – This is a person that does not eat meat, poultry or seafood of any kind.

Semi-Vegetarian – This person is a vegetarian but also eats dairy products, eggs, chicken and fish. They don’t eat red meat or pork.

Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian – This is the largest group of vegetarians in the world as they do not eat meat, poultry and seafood but do eat eggs and dairy.

Ovo-Vegetarian – They eat vegetables and eggs.

Lacto-Vegetarian – They eat vegetables and dairy

Vegan – This is the strictest of all as vegans do not eat any animal products of by-products like dairy and eggs. Some do not even consume honey and may not even wear clothing made from animal products.

Thinking about taking part in one of these lifestyles, take your time to understand your goals. If you drive a car with leather seats it would be hard to call yourself a vegan. Do you want to live the lifestyle or do you just want to eat healthy? I guess it might sound cool to label yourself as part of some sort of movement, but the reality is, who are you? What are you about? Or do you just want to eat healthy? Personally for me, it’s all about eating healthy and not becoming a statistic. I’ll just tell everyone I’m on a plant based diet.

Healthy Restaurants In Your City

by Dean Iodice on May 6, 2013

One of the hardest things to do is find a healthy place to eat when you are traveling or just around your own town. Sure every restaurant tries to cater to healthy eaters but the choices are usually bland, boring and far and few. I came across a fantastic website today, www.happycow.net. What a wonderful site, and great idea. It’s one of those, “Why didn’t I think of that” ideas. You can search by city, state, country or region. Write reviews and even suggest a restaurant.

Thinking About Becoming A Vegan?

by Dean Iodice on May 6, 2013

So I’m day 1 on my new vegan diet, so far so good. Started the day with a nice bowl of oatmeal and had an amazing salad for lunch. Easy so far, however let me come clean and say that I have been dieting as part of the super foods diet for over a month now. The only difference between the two is the super food diet allows for salmon and chicken, so that’s all I’m really cutting out. I have been eating a ton of vegetables and fruits so the transition may not be that tough.

With that said I found a great website today through Twitter, Twitter name @theveganproject, which brought me to their website The Vegan Project and this great resource page for people trying to take on a vegan diet.

I hope you find it as helpful as I do.

vegan-diet-592x396

My life changed this past weekend when I visited some friends in Tampa, Florida for their sons second birthday party. What I thought would be an escape from my super foods diet sampling tons of cookies and candies was just the opposite. Upon chatting with my friend he turned me onto a diet he has been on now for several months that he explained has changed his life. When I asked what it was he replied “vegan”. My first thought was, NOOOOOOOOO, not some south beach hippy diet. Before I could blurt out negatives I simply listened as he explained it to me.

It’s basically a plant based diet, if it grows from the earth you can eat it. I like anyone else replied with, what about Salmon?forks-over-knives His reply “NO”, what about chicken? “NO”, Tuna? “NO, and also no olive oil, whole wheat breads, or dairy products either”. I stood there with my mouth open, with my only thought of how in the world can you live on just vegetables.

Without trying to convince me he simply recommended a documentary called “Forks over Knives” on Netflix. We drove home Sunday afternoon with the only thing running through my mind was getting home to watch this movie.

The movie that changed my thinking

The name basically describes it all, Forks over Knives, we don’t need knives to eat plant based foods, we only need a fork. This 1 hour and 15 show had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, knowing very well that I was done eating animals. Chicken, beef, pork, fish. I’m done, the results of the tests the doctors do in this movie will shock you and most of all sicken you, but the results of the sick people they cured from just eating food will make you rethink your diet for the rest of your life.

We need to eat to live, not live to eat. The western diet here in the United States is by far the worst diet in the world. We are riddled with processed foods, fast foods, highly saturated fat meats and it’s just killing americans. Our government does nothing about it because it all about the mighty dollar. These industries, fast food, beef, egg, poultry, pharmacy, they are all multi billion dollar industries. Something bad pops up, it’s wiped away with payoffs and ignorance. Keep feeding the poison to the american people and make them dependent of drugs to not cure them, but to keep them sick and needing more. It’s all a cycle, in one door and out the other.

All I can say is take the time to sit down and watch this movie and you will change your eating pattern today and start living a healthy lifestyle.

chicken-with-honey-bbq-sauce

I’m on my second week of the Weight Watchers diet and so far so good. It’s one of the easiest diets I have ever been on, although I sometimes question the healthy choices of being able to eat a slice a pizza and a McDonalds hamburger. The reality of it is, the diet is designed to be a lifestyle that’s nothing more than portion control. There is nothing wrong with eating pizza, it’s eating 3 pizza pies a week that becomes the issue.  It all comes down to nothing is good in excess. Eating McDonalds is not bad…every once in a while.

With that said, I wanted to introduce you to another amazing Smart Ones dinner, actually a good snack. Chicken with Honey BBQ Sauce Smart Tortilla Rolls. These are amazing, so good they would be the top seller on any restaurants appetizer menu. Every time I make these at work everyone starts saying how amazing they smell.

Each package comes with 2 servings, 1 serving is two rolls and totals 6 Weight Watchers points.

They have become my daily afternoon pleasure. Right around 3PM I get that craving for a light yet filling snack and these guys satisfy every time.

Eat Brownies And Lose Weight

by Dean Iodice on January 9, 2013

Yeah yeah I know the title is a little misleading. Obviously you can’t eat brownies and expect to lose weight. However if you are on the Weight Watchers Diet then you MUST add these delightful chocolate goodies to your shopping list.  Keeping in mind that WeightWatchers is all about eating the foods you like in sensible portions. And sensible portions these little guys are. Each perfectly squared brownie is 2″x2″ and a little more than a 1/2″ thick. They are not really diet foods in a sense. However it’s not a bunch of junk food either. It’s a small sensible 130 calorie snack

When I purchased these brownies I said to myself in the store,” I can only imagine what these are going to taste like, cardboard or foam”? Well I was  mistaken, these just might be the best brownies I ever tasted. They are moist, very chocolaty and packed with real chocolate chips.

For Weight Watchers users they have a very small 3 points and can fit into anyones diet. As with all diet foods the price is always higher than it should actually be. Each box sells for $3.59 and contains 4 small brownies. I was happy to find them on sale for 2 for 1 at my local Publix super market.

So if you are looking for something to fill in those last few points or craving a sweet treat that won’t kill your points then this is the perfect solution.
